EPSE Awards 2019 - Meet our jury
EPSE – the trade association representing polycarbonate sheet suppliers and producers in Europe – is proud to present the jury members of 9th edition of its EPSE AWARDS. Fifteen great projects have entered into the 2019 competition.

Caterina Tiazzoldi
Architect, Researcher, Educator - Caterina Tiazzoldi Studio
In 2006 Caterina earned a PhD (with honours) in Non-Linear Design Strategies in the Architecture Department Architectural Design from the Politecnico di Torino and an M.Arch from the Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation at Columbia University in New York. In her teaching and research practice, Tiazzoldi focuses on Adaptive Design in Architecture and Public Spaces. Her focus is the relationship between qualitative and quantitative data in response to the project’s programmatic performances, scale and context.

Bert De Smedt-Jans
Engineer, Chairman of the Board of Directors, De Werkvennootschap - DWV
Bert worked as an engineer, project manager and director of various public projects in Belgium as construction of roads, bridges, tunnels (train, metro, cars), buildings (including renovation of the Atomium); public parks etc. Between 2015 - 2018 he was in charge of the ‘Regie der Gebouwen’ (Direction of Federal Public Buildings) in the Cabinet of Jan Jambon – Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Security and Internal Affairs. Since 2018 he is the chairman of De Werkvennootschap – DWV’- working for more livability and smoother traffic.

Rebecca Lam
Editor, PIE – Plastics Information Europe
Rebecca joined PIE in 2017, which is the sister publication of Kunststoff Information in Bad Homburg, Germany. Before gaining knowledge of the plastics industry, Rebecca was a neuroscientist at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt, Germany, where polycarbonate had a role to play in her lab work. She has a PhD in Physiology from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.

Hannah Drew
Sustainability Executive - Recovinyl®
Hannah Drew studied Geography at the University of Brighton and her passion for sustainability led her to study Environmental Technology at Imperial College London, where she focused on global environmental change and policy. Hannah is currently the Sustainability Executive at Recovinyl®, which is the initiative of the European PVC value-chain aimed at facilitating PVC waste collection and recycling.
Judging Process
As a first step the jury members judged the projects individually. This took place during the summer of 2019.
The pre-selected projects will be published on the EPSE website on Monday 9th September, where the public can vote for the best project in each of the three categories: Design, Innovation & Sustainability.
